Destro

Destro Iron Grenadiers POC 30th Anniversary Pursuit of Cobra 50th GI Joe CobraDestro personally sees to the delivery of new tech and weapons for Cobra.

This 50th Anniversary Destro figure is quite nice. I recall fans being disappointed by the construction of his knees or  some such, but generally speaking this is a fantastic figure. The sculpting is awesome, he’s made mostly out of new tooling, and most of all, he LOOKS like Destro. I really dig his briefcase and modular riffle too.

Future Warfare

Battle Force 2000 Hasbro ARAH vintage GI Joe Knockdown Maverick Blaster

The future is always changing and technology is constantly evolving. The Battleforce 2000 is ready to counter any threat, old or new.

I took some inspiration from the Call of Duty: BOIII announcement when making this one. I’m not hugely into the Battleforce 2000, or BOIII, but in certain ways both are nice. Funny how that is.

Night Snipe

Low-Light GI Joe POC Resolute 50th Anniversary Retaliation CobraLow-Light takes aim at high value Cobra targets from a secure position. When he’s done, they won’t even know what hit ’em.

Reissuing POC Low-Light was one of the best things Hasbro did last year. The figure’s original release was so hard to find he amassed some absurd value on eBay of hundreds of dollars. That shouldn’t have been, so it’s nice to see him become more available. I still hope they re-release some of the other rare Pursuit of Cobra figures.

One Shot, One Chance

Low-Light Dial-Tone Cobra Commander Tele-Viper Major Bludd Cobra Trooper TBM Stinger ARAH Vintage Hasbro GI Joe

Low-Light and Dial-Tone have crawled, hid, and waited for days on a special mission to assassinate Cobra Commander. Will they hit? If they do, there won’t be time to confirm once an onslaught of Cobras go to pursue them.

I’ve never seen a diorama photographed from a first-person perspective, so this was an attempt at that. The secret behind this trickery is that I actually combined three separate images into one, and made the scope overlay in Photoshop. It was fun to do.

City Sweep

50th Anniversary GI Joe Cobra POC Retaliation Flint Crosshair VAMP Mk II Spy Troops

Flint and Crosshair secure the city’s perimeter, increasing the pressure on Cobra.

It’s a shame this figure was so hard to acquire, being an SDCC exclusive. It feels like something smaller or the gray version should have been the exclusive, but I suppose we’re lucky this figure was released in the 50th line at all.

Circus Tigers

GI Joe ARAH Vintage Tiger Force Tripwire Stalker Dial-tone Spy-troops

Rather than disabling a trap, Tripwire sets one under Stalkers orders. Though he’s uncomfortable with the task, the Tiger Force will break the rules if it means beating Cobra.

Decided I’d introduce a little vintage fun to the blog. The ARAH Tiger Force figures are one of my favorite GI Joe subsets, and the Spy-Troops era TRU figures aren’t bad, either.

Delta Squad

Steel Brigade Delta 30th Anniversary POC VAMP GI Joe Cobra Retaliation

The Steel Brigade Delta force moves through intense weather conditions to rescue a hostage being detained by Cobra in some swamps.

So glad I had the opportunity to army build these guys. They’re a little hard to pose given how bulky they are, but still insanely cool figures from the 30th Anniversary line.
